Our History
Established in 2014 and rooted in Wajir, Kenya, Action for Sustainable Development Africa (AFSDA) is driven by a clear mission: to empower local communities—particularly women, children, and youth—through sustainable, community-led solutions. Our model is built on the pillars of Peacebuilding, Climate Action, Education, Health, WASH, Governance, and Livelihoods.
Our vision, “A peaceful, healthy, and empowered society that thrives in a sustainable environment,” reflects our deep commitment to building resilient, self-reliant communities across northern Kenya.
Since inception, AFSDA has become a trusted force for positive change, making tangible contributions to socio-economic development in both rural and urban settings. Through strategic partnerships with the National Government, County Governments, development partners, civil society, and academic institutions, we champion transformative programs that uplift the most vulnerable and foster inclusive, long-term progress.
AFSDA has a strong track record of empowering women and girls through comprehensive education and mentorship programs, ensuring access to quality learning, skills development, and essential financial support. By integrating technology-driven initiatives, we promote digital inclusion in underserved areas—offering training in computer literacy, digital skills, and entrepreneurship to boost economic opportunities.
In our peacebuilding efforts, we conduct impactful community workshops and awareness campaigns focused on conflict resolution, gender equality, and social cohesion—helping foster a culture of dialogue, inclusion, and peaceful coexistence across Wajir and surrounding regions.
This proactive approach plays a vital role in building stable, peaceful communities while enhancing the overall well-being of women and girls. In the area of environmental conservation, AFSDA actively involves women and youth in community-led initiatives that promote sustainable practices, climate-smart agriculture, and eco-friendly livelihoods—contributing to a healthier and more resilient environment in arid and semi-arid regions.
AFSDA is equally committed to creating long-term economic opportunities. Through hands-on skills training, entrepreneurship support, and access to microfinance, we empower women and youth to start and manage small businesses—fostering economic independence and strengthening local economies.
In line with our commitment to innovation and inclusive development, AFSDA is introducing the “Resilient Futures” program—an integrated, rights-based approach centered around Education, Economic Empowerment, and Environment. This holistic initiative is grounded in community strengths, unlocking the full potential of vulnerable populations and driving meaningful, lasting change across Wajir and beyond.
